Education Must Continue Initiative (EMCI) was started in 2014, in response to the rising number of IDP children due to the Boko Haram insurgency. Two ” emergency learning centers” were started in Yola and in Lassa; these have since become schools. At the time, we estimated that there were over 5 million out of school children. A 2017 UNICEF report stated that over 10 million school-aged children were out of school. We are a community of individuals with distinct backgrounds but ultimately drawn by a desire to spread the love of God through education. The personnel of the EMCI are made up of fulltime and volunteer staff based in Jos, Abuja, Yola, Lassa, as well as in the United States. Our mission statement is “Restoring foundations of quality Education to the deprived victims of discrimination and terror especially in the Northeastern Part of Nigeria”. Our vision statement is “Growing number of children from the region who can favorably compete academically with their peers from anywhere in the country.” Funds raise through this platform would go directly to the institution in Yola to support administrative responsiblities including paying of salaries for over 15 teachers there.
